LEATHER
WORSHIP
CONTEXT
Since the 1960s, Doc Martens have been built on leather…and attitude. Leather isn’t just rebellious and nonconformist. It’s undeniably sexy.
...And no one knows that better than the BDSM community, where leather isn’t just worn…it’s worshipped.
BIG IDEA
Doc Martens sets up shop at Folsom Street Fair, a bootblack-inspired leather "service station" in the style of a vintage body shop. The booth serves up real boot shines, leather care kits, and "service men" eye candy, inviting festivalgoers to treat leather not just as fashion, but as tradition worth preserving.
INSIGHT
We glorify leather for its toughness, but forget how much care it takes to keep it that way.
In queer leather culture, that care isn’t just upkeep…it’s passion. Bootblacking, the ritual of cleaning and caring for leather, is both fetish and tradition. Those who shine boots don’t just preserve leather, they preserve legacy.
